Hello everyone, yesterday I found 3 species of a fly on trees on the Stux hill, 2 on oak, one on Crataegus. Could my determinaton be correct? Length, from nose to wingtip, 14 mm. Fly1 and 2 are one individuum, as well as fly3 and 4. Location: Germany, Rhineland-Palatinum, 53572 Unkel, river Rhine valley, Stux hill, dry and warm habitat (grapeyards), nearby deciduous forest (oak, Fagus ...), May 12th, 2026, about 140 m NN. Hello Michael, the first 3 images show a female Otites porcus, I think, because occiput, femora and tibiae are widely orange-yellow from: E. P. Kameneva & V. A. Korneyev (2019): New nomenclatural changes in the genus Otites Latreille, 1804 Images 4 and 5 do not show enough characters to ID for me. Greetings, Eric |

Eric is right Otites porcus (Latreille, 1804) = jucunda = fastuosa Rond. Occiput and femora black-and-yellow In Germany, it occurs in North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, and Bavaria - ossibly to Rine watershed in the East, te other part of middle Europe has similar O. rufieps (former fomosa, preocc. name) and ornata (former bacescui) See our revision here: https://doi.org/1...do.3585580 Edited by Nosferatumyia on 13-05-2026 18:34 Val |
