Hi.

I found this small (2mm), to me unknown fly in a Malaise trap sample from a large Typha stand with many interesting diptera species. I suspect it may be a Stenomicra, but I have no reference illustrations of this genus, nor a good description.

Arista: Long-haired, "Drosophila-like"
Wing: Costal break apparently absent (Stenomicra should have one...), Sc end freely in the cell, not reaching C. Microtrichiae missing around crossveins, creating apparent pale spots around the vein.

Collected from southern Finland in July 2007.

PS Sorry for the terrible photo quality Sad If you need more details just ask - but the chaetotaxy may be difficult to judge aften some rought handling of the trap material.

The costal break in Stenomicra can be difficult to see. The large 2nd antennal segment is typical, as is the position of the ocellar triangle - placed well forward of the vertex. Everything else looks good to me. I can send you some papers on the genus (when I get back to work in a week or so). Smile
