I took this ?Anthomyiid this morning on the edge of mixed forest in N Scotland. I usually ignore this family, but the extraordinary hairs on the sternites make me hope that it is distinctive enough for someone to identify. Close-up follows. Murdo Edited by syrphus on 02-07-2013 15:46 |

Change title to Anthomyiidae to attract the experts. We have several species in North America with conspicuous hairs under the abdomen but they are not confined to a single genus. |

This has now been identified at NMS as Zaphne caudata. Murdo |
