Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Systenus scholtzi or scholtzii (Dolichopodidae)

I have reared a male from a rot hole in a beech. The keys I used spell the species name "scholtzi". On various internet pages, however, the name is "scholtzii". (Loew, 1850).

What is the correct spelling?

Kind regards
Leif

I believe "scholtzii" is correct - that's how Loew spells it!

Similar as in Suillia mikii - the species name derives from the Latin second declension: from Mik (genetivus: miki + i, if the name was proposed before 1930) (if I correctly remember the old rules of the naming species). So scholtzii (Loew, 1850) is correct!

I think it was Mik -> latinised Mikius -> genitivus mikii

Now, according to the "new rules" a species named after Mik should be miki only ;)

Thank you, Tony, Andrzej and Paul. Now I know why some names have 2 x i and other only one. :)

I will use scholtzii in my spreadsheet.
