Berlin - August 2016
Hello everyone,
I can't find a genus for this Muscidae species. I think that Spilogona is a match but i have no experience with Spilogona genus. The eyes are slightly haired, the scutum is dark blue and dusted gray. The haltere is yellow. I tried to key it as a Spilogona and i arrive at Spilogona meadei but i think that a species level id is not possible without a specimen. Thus, i am hoping that the genus can be confirmed or that someone can offer a better suggestion.
ps i've lightened the photo quite a bit from the original. I simply adjusted the midtone of the photo. I will post a small reminder of the original photo. The species is very dark blue in fact.
Best wishes,
John

John, what about date and place????
Anyway, I'd start to check H. evecta or H. cyrtoneurina

Hello Nikita and Jürgen,
I've thought about Hydrotaea but i don't see a modified fore femur. I don't think that it is a female. Anyway, i have documented Hydrotaea cyrtoneurina:
Hydrotaea cyrtoneurina male

Helina evecta would not look like that even if one fell into dark blue paint. I think that you are just messin' with me. :) The frons is too wide for a male H. evecta and too narrow for a female - amongst other things.
I'll attach a lateral photo next but also a photo of the head of Helina evecta ^^
Best wishes,
John

lateral photo. No specimen. Only the dorsal and lateral photos. I suppose that Hydrotaea is a good suggestion.
