Berlin - July 2017

Hello everyone,

I noticed photos of a female Tephritidae on my hard-drive from 2017. I think it is a Tephritis species but i don't know how to scientifically separate Tephritis and Campiglossa.

Anyway, i found it in heathland sitting on a leaf, so i don't know the host plant. I've tried to match the wing pattern and i think that it resembles Tephritis matricariae and leontodontis.
Maybe i can get a tip in the right direction?

Also, I noticed that the gallery doesn't have any photos of Tephritis tanaceti. Has the name changed or is it because noone has uploaded photos of it?
Valery, rather Dr. Korneyev, has identified a Tephritis tanaceti in one of my earlier posts. Thus, i can provide a photo for the gallery if it is helpful.

This is T. ruralis Loew, 1844, and certainly NOT T. tanaceti.
You can see at higher magnification that its abdomen has black setulae at bases of tergites and long white setae at margins, wing with dark pattrn entering the anal lobe, posterior notopleural seta white, and oviscape relatively short and red rather than long or black.
Larvae in Hieracium spp.
May I please ask you for coordinates in turn?

of course! I don't have any objections to that with any of my photos. Just ask me :)
I will send a pm with information for you now...

I only mentioned tanaceti because i noticed it is missing from the gallery. I have a process of elimination that i use when i don't have keys or descriptions. I wanted to look at all of the Tephritis in the gallery for possible matches before posting. I didn't notice ruralis, so perhaps i moved to quickly. sorry. Anyway, i will just add a photo of tanaceti to the gallery since it seems to be missing.

And Thank you very much for your determination. Please check your private messages.

Best wishes,
John
