Berlin - October 2019

Hello everyone,

I found some Phoridae species at my balcony and buzzing around my flat. I also found pupae and similar specimens have emerged. I think that it is Megaselia genus and some research led me to Megaselia rufipes but there are over 250 species in Germany. yikes!

I would like to know if anyone has keys to Megaselia?
some of them are orange. Anyone have a list of orange Megaselia to help narrow the list of options?

In any event, i am hoping for confirmation of the genus and somekeys/ tips for identification.

Best wishes,
John

well i found some keys from the old RES handbook. irritating that they are not separated into orange and black. anyway, M. rufipes should have long hairs on the abdominal tergites, so it can't be M. rufipes.

I guess that i need genitalia or dna. Hopefully one of the three from the pupae is a male.

Best wishes,
John
