Hi

* locality - Silgueiros - Viseu - PORTUGAL
* date - 2007.10 - last weekend
* size - 7 mm (medium fly)
* habitat - woodland
* substrate - leaf of Ficus carica

There are green metallic Lonchaeidae around as well. Interesting the black colour of the halter.

EDIT---> Title changed from "Lonchaeidae - Lonchaea sp. on Ficus carica" to "Lonchaeidae - Dasiops latifrons"

Jorge

with partly yellow tarsomeres, short antennal flagellomere and strong setulae on the genae this is Dasiops latifrons a common species in southern Europe. the other species you mentioned in yur e-mail, Lonchaea aristella is now called Silba virescens and is one of the very few European Lonchaeidae to have a row of long hairs on the arista .........
