Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Eccoptomera pallescens Meigen (was Heleomyzidae ?)

Could somebody help with this fly? It has Heleomyzidae appearance, with the exception that there are no evident vibrissae. I was unable to reliably associate it with any other family as well as any genus of Heleomyzidae. Collected 21.07.2017 in South Karelia (NW Russia), body size ca. 6 mm.

The small eyes and long arista suggest Eccoptomera. The genitalia are very similar to E. pallescens - see http://www.spessa.../hpgs.html There appears to be a scar where the vibrissa should be - I think they have just been knocked off.

Tony, thanks a lot for identification and link!

I thought about Eccoptomera but was not sure.
And you are right about the scar. It's really there though hardly detectable.
