Hello,

is this fly from a park near Kyoto a Stomorhina species? Which?

Thanks,
Michael

It is definitely Rhiini but not Stomorhina lunata.
It resembles Rhinia apicalis in my collection.
However, I have no idea about the Japanese fauna.
So, probably Rhinia, possibly Rhinia apicalis, a male.

Magnificant fly, by the way

Stomorhina obsoleta, possibly the most common fly in the Kinki region of Japan.

Hello,

I saw this fly at several occasions, so I also think it is something rather common. I will put it into the directory "Stomorhina obsoleta".

Thank you to both of you,
Michael
