I'd appreciate your help identifying the species of this fly. It was sitting on kitchen paper in my kitchen bin (Ipswich, VC25 East Suffolk, TM166450) today 19 Aug 2015.
I have the specimen if images from any different angles are needed.
Best wishes,
Martin

Martin kindly sent me the specimen, and I have checked the aculeus tip to confirm that it is
matricariae. But John Smit has suggested that the oviscapt is normally black in
matricariae - any comments on variation in oviscapt colour?

I believe it can vary; I have never checked Bitish specimens.
The key characters are white p npl, white abdominal setulae and the wing pattern, with dark pattern entering the anal lobe.

Specimens from South Yorkshire have oviscape as in this case.
