Spotted several of these tiny flies on marguerite flowers- 2nd one seems to be ovipositing. About 1.5mm body length. Taken last few days, south coast UK. Guessing they are gall midges ?

Any thoughts
Thanks

Yes, I think is a Cecidomyiidae too. No idea about the genus...I just have some familiarity with Aphidoletes spp.

Does marguerite mean Asteraceae, Anthemidiae near Chrysanthemum? If so, based on appearance and host plant it should be Ozirhincus longicollis or tanaceti.

Thanks for the help. Marguerite= Argyranthemum frutescens or Leucanthemum × superbum not sure which but the fly looks extremely similar to shots of Ozirhincus tanaceti

The two species have now been synonymized, so on Anthemideae with 10 flagellomeres it is Ozirhincus longicollis.
