Hi,

Alain BLED : Laos : Vang Vieng : 00000 : 14/04/2012
Altitude : 250m. - Taille : 20mm
Réf. : 85227

A fly from Laos.
After many discussions on our french forum, we concluded to the Cerioidini tribe.

Do you happen to have a more precise idea ?
Thanks in advance.

It is belonging to Cerioidini and it should be Ceriana.

Piet,

Thanks. The Wikipedia states there is 197 species in this tribe. But I couldn't find the precise number of genera.

I think this is likely Monoceromyia javana...see images and comments at this iNaturalist link.

This one from Thailand also looks like M. javana...and is closer to Laos.

Note that some syrphid workers consider Cerioidini as containing only a single genus, Ceriana, and they relegate subtaxa like Monoceromyia and others (that have been long treated as genera) to subgenus status. For those adopting that view, the most informative way to present the name here is as a trinomial: Ceriana (Monoceromyia) javana.

Yes...Monoceromyia javana see comment above.

[Note: I'm messaging you here because I'm not familiar with how "Diptera.info" works. Seems like the original poster may not be notified of activity on their threads unless a commenter "quotes" their message?

Aaron, no, the OP has to check the 'notify of replies' square when posting. Otherwise it's a matter of checking back periodically to see.
