Hello

the diameter of the blue veronica is less than 15mm. So the flies are verry smal. They came soon after the snow melted away. I met them all near the bottom.

Are they Parasyrphus punctulatus?

in my opinion, yes. It is easy to confuse with P. maculatus, yuo should look at the colour of stigma ( after M. P. van Veen)
Best wishes,
Amalia

Since the pterostigma is light, it should be P. punctulatus.

I would say three out of four is a good score for parasyrphus punctulatus. :D:D
In my opinion the first picture (Upper left) shows a male of Melangyna lasiopthalma. The shape of the spots on the abdomen is more square and the color of the scutellum is different!

Thank you all very much for helping!
I have here some more pictures of the first.
And Ithink I have found the female of M. lasiophthalma , too (07.04.2007 near Lake of Thun).

With regards Maja

Hi,
