Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Laxenecera sp? Large, Afrotropical Asilidae

Location: Chongwe, Lusaka, Zambia
Habitat: mixed trees and long grass. Damp Areas.
Date: Seen occasionally February-March 2013, Seen mating around 5-8 March.
Size: Probably around 2-2.5 cm.

Notes: Seemed to be associated with grasshopper-rich patches, but on both occasions when it was seen feeding, had preyed upon small semi-social wasps.

Has swollen thighs of Hoplistomeris nobilis, otherwise very little in common.

Editing to 'Laxenecera sp?', as a similar fly in a different thread was pointed out to be Laxenecera, possibly L. albicincta, and this fly resembles a female of that species posted elsewhere.
