Collected on a trip to the UK. 7 August 1983, Gloucester, Forest of Dean, heathland. length 16 mm.

i'm no expert but it looks like Sericomyia silentis, Genus Sericomyia. I base this only on a photo of this species in 'Hoverflies of Surrey'.
