Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Preparing Sarcophagidae

As I've been collecting more Sarcophagidae, I've learned from the literature that they are best prepared for later ID by using a pin to loosen the male genitalia into a position that is easily viewable.

My question is, would it be appropriate to remove the terminal segment(s) and glue it to a point below the specimen? Although it may take more time, it seems that the structures would be more readily visible if it were done this way, and it would probably be easier way to prepare for me personally.

This is a fully acceptable method, which is actually quite often practised on dry material.

Are there any good guides to either the removal or extraction of the genitalia? Or, even better, a video? Thanks!
