Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Parasite on Trichoceridae?

Hi,

I thought at first this thing protruding from under the abdomen of a dead Trichoceridae (~7mm) female was a vacated cocoon of a parasite. After downloading the photos it doesn't look vacated, maybe not even a parasite but the abdomen isn't squashed. From the back view there appears to be something inside the 'thing'. The head of the fly is strange too, almost as if it has been covered in a jelly substance but I can't really see the head.

I found the fly recently inside near my back door where some occasionally sit when they get inside. Location near Lincoln UK. Today I have sent it to Paul as I was sending another fly, can anyone suggest what has happened to the fly?
