Hi,

this pupa was found in decaying wood of alnus, May 2011, Northern Germany. Is it a Tipulidae and is it possible to identify it?

Thanks
Thomas

It is definitely a Tipulidae, but I'm not certain about the identity. It may be Dictenidia, Ctenophora or perhaps even Tipula flavolineata, but I don't thinks so.

Although not all characters are visible, the key in Theowald 1957 runs to Dictenidia bimaculata, one of the most common xylophagous species.
