These larvae were in a thin film of water on a vertical rock face near tree line (1400m) on the slope of Mount Washington, New Hampshire, USA on June 8, 2011. Size is 5-6 mm.
I assumed they were diptera but did not find any family they might be. I hope I'll find them again next year and get better pictures.

I hadn't thought of Psychodidae. It doesn't look much like the common drain fly (
Clogmia albipunctata). The guide to American aquatic insects says they do live in rock seeps and have secondary segmentation, which appears to be present here.

Although a psychodid was my first impression too, I cannot see the head, so perhaps some Atrichopogon-species may be possible too?
