Coastal area in southern Spain
Photograph taken on 30 October, 2011, in the wetlands of the Suárez Pond in Motril, Granada, Spain.
Immediate area of the Mediterranean coast.
Approximate size, 6 mm
Click over the image increases in size
I would appreciate your help identifying this dipterous

Making it clear that I am an amateur with no training or knowledge, in my opinion, I think both of you are right in the family and gender.

Please do submit this to the gallery. There are no Lamprolonchaea images in the gallery!

Yes, I think gender is Lamprolonchaea. But I will try, if possible to determine the species, which would be perfect.

I will also process a photo more than they did, for if I could help further progress in the identification.
If within a reasonable time is not possible to determine the species, the DI would go to the Gallery as a genre.

Yes definitely a
Lamprolonchaea which are notoriously difficult to determine to species level but fortunately only one species has been recorded in Europe and as a result I can say fairly confidently that this is a male
L. smaragdi Walker. I have seen speciemens recently from Mallorca.. Do you mind if I use the top photo attributed to you on the Lonchaeidae website??
