Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Cheilosia albitarsis?

From midwest Sweden 2006-07-02. I think it might be a Cheilosia sp!? This was the best of three bad shots ... Unusual maroonish color of the wings!?

Yes, it is a Cheilosia, and I think this is the female of C. albitarsis.

Thank you very much Gerard. C. albitarsis sounds like it should have white (or at least light) tarsi, but as far as I can see these are all dark ...

Hello Crex,
Yes, that is true, normally you would see some white tarsal segments on leg 1, but as always there are animals (in these case especially females) in which this character is hardly visible. In this case my identification was based on general shape and the yellowish color of the wing base!

Hello,

the Cheilosia albitarsis I know in eastern Bavaria seldom have "white" segments on the tars 1. They are mostly yellow or brown, but always recognizable lighter than the other segments.
