Hello!

Is this a Muscid (possibly Phaonia)? Sat on a tree trunk today at forest edge (Ostwestfalen/Germany). Length about 10 mm. Thanks in advance!

Hello!

I'm not sure, if this one is of the same species (no red dot on head, slightly larger). Pic taken at same location.

Hi J?rgen - They are different species - leg bristles, shape of outer cross-vein, frons colour - and I suspect different families. Not sure, but I think the first one is possibly an anthomyiid, and the second a muscid, probably Phaonia. May be able to help further when I get access to my collection again!

Thank you! The general similarity between these two flies is astounding (eye colour, wing colour, thorax colour and pattern) when regarding that they are from two different families.
