Hello dipterafriends,
I also have an not identified yellow fly. Two of them where sitting on and near a rotted banana hanging in a tree in my garden in Norderstedt, near Hamburg, Germany ( it was smelling intensiv sweet and unpleasant ). They where about 10 mm big and lazy.

I showed the fly on Insektenfotos.de but nobody was shure about the full name. Is it possible to get help here?

Hi Kristen.
With yellow shoulders I'd say Scathophaga (suilla?).

Hi Nikita, thank you very much for your answer. Why can't I get any information about this fly in the www? Would be very interesting to see any other pics, especially from the beautiful face. Do you have some?

Hi Kristen,
really in Google image search there aren't Scathophaga suilla.
You can find some here on Diptera.info (keyword "suilla") or on www.rosfoto.ru

Hi Nikita, with your help I could see now some more photos from S. suilla and I also think, that this is my fly. Do you think that I need a cf. between Scathophaga and suilla?

Thank you for all :D

Kristen,
I would like to know answer myself.
I understood cf as:
There is, for example fly Xxx yyy, then one discovers that it is realy group of related species - Xxx yyy, X. yyy1, X. yyy2. In this case one of this group mya be labeled as cf Xxx yyy.
But according Diptera.info Glossary "cf" = "?"

I understand a 'cf.' between genus and species name in that way, that the genus is not in doubt, but there are more than one possibilities for the species, the given name being the (one of the) most probable. It is just a bit more definite than a Genus sp., which means: any species of the given genus possible.
