Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Jewel Wasp ?

Is this another chalcidoid wasp?. Seemed to be taking a lot of interest in some aphids which were around the base of this flower but defended by black ants. Taken today South Coast UK 4.7mm long.

Hi Brian
Not a Chalcid, this is a species of Chrysid wasp, probably a species of Hedychridium. We have 4 species in the UK. I would guess it was visiting the aphid colony for a top up with honeydew.

Thanks again :) - only the second one of these I've seen - think the other was a ruby tailed wasp on the look out for spiders but never got a chance for a photo.
