Hi

I saw this fantastic Dolichopodidae today near the river Dão. Maybe this is a Ludovicus sp. but not sure, though. The arista is just impressive. This is a male with a very beautiful ornament to attract dozens of females. :D Imagine a human to have such thing :D eheh

yes, me too. That's why I'm sharing wit you. This is just fabulous.
I was near the margin of the river Dão searching for new Lispe, Limnophora, possibly Brontaea, and others... but then I saw something unusual... I approached and then exploded in joy. The guilty was this fly. This ornament is really *something* and a great way to attract females.
It was very difficult to photograph... the substrate was very hard and irregular.. and the fly was very quick. I only managed to get two good shots. The others... there is no fly in the photo! The reaction of this fly is just impressive. In miliseconds it runs away from the flash!

It is not just in tropics that exist amazing dolis. They are in Póvoa Dão as well. :D

Ludovicius would be correct, but the genus has been synonymized with Sybistroma (Brooks 2005).
