I have two species on my Checkist for Shetland.
1. Bibio nigriventris
2. Dilophus femoratus

Any idea if this is the Male of either of the above, or something else?

Paul, can I take it by the position of a comma after "Well" in the above statement that this is D.femoratus? Exclusion of the comma would put stress on the word "is", which would imply that this is a Dilophus sp. which you do not know.
English Language can lead to simple answers sounding either condescending at worst, or rather ambiguous, intended or otherwise.
Clarification would be appreciated. B).

A group of three spines and a single spine separate from that group about halfway the fore tibia should be D. febrilis. :)

It looks like febrilis, but I can't be 100 % sure.

Please get a pic of the female, then it will be easy peasy
