My Palaearctic knowledge is a little useless here in Suriname, so I'm glad to be able to keep it fresh thanks to this forum thread...
First of all it's not a Scaeva species, because of the lack of hairs on the eyes and the not-swollen frons. However, as in Scaeva species, vein R4+5 is somewhat sinuated, suggesting that it is Eupeodes lapponicus. This is supported by the dark frons and the shape of the dust spots on it, and by the yellow abdominal markings, which do not reach the side margins (even the margins of tergite 5 seem to be black).
