Hecamede granifera and H. albicans are often listed as synonyms in the form :
H.granifera (= H.albicans of authors)
meaning that H. granifera has been misidentified as H. albicans by various authors, e.g. both in Hawaii and Japan. However the species are quite distinct. Wayne Mathis revised the genus in 1993 and figured the genitalia. There are other chaetotaxy characters which can be used to separate the species.
