Location: my garden in Nagaon village, Maharashtra, Konkan Coast, SW India. I think it's Asilidae but I'm not sure.

It is one of the genera of Asilinae with modified wing in male (costa bulging out).

Thank you! I was confused because I couldn't find any wings like that in net searches.

Clephydroneura, numerous spp. from the Oriental region. Costa generally bulging outward is very distinctive. Joseph and Parui, 1979 (Ent. scand. 10: 33-42) noted that it is much similar to the Afrotropical genus Synolcus. By the way, an unidentified South African robber fly shown in the wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asilidae#/media/File:Closeup_Robber_Fly.jpg) most probably represents Synolcus dubius (Macquart, 1846)
