Picture taken in September, east China (Zhejiang province). Approx. 4mm in body length. Could it be a Lauxaniidae? Or something else in another family? Many thanks in advance!

Somewhat similar to a Minettia found at this link: https://www.kozan...1/59/3232/ . And Homoneura is also a good candidate (https://www.resea..._325092840)

Your fly has a postsutural intra-alar bristle. That bristle is present in Minettia and a few relatives, absent in most Lauxaniidae including Homoneura.

Ah, then I should rule out Homoneura! Thank you John for the explanation! |t
