Nemotelus sp.? The eyes suggest a male, but bugguide states that males also have more white than females. I see no white on this individual.

Assuming it's northern hemisphere, then Nemotelus nigrinus seems likely

I got a post that says bruesii because nigrinus has no R4. It doesn't look to me like any of the ones on BG, but maybe they are all females and this one is male.

Yes, the other bruesii on BG are all females. I'm withdrawing my suggestion of nigrinus, as that species has a very narrow occipital band behind the eyes - your specimen has a deeper band between the eyes and the flat part of the occiput.
