Bee fly Bombylius or Systoechus sp nectaring on Tassel Hyacinth Muscari comosum. Photographed on 1 May, central lowland France. I can't tell which genus it is because although I have about 20 photos of this individual, none show wing venation so I can't see where the cross vein is. It has black femora with dusting and in a couple of the photos, with the eye of faith, I can see a few long black hairs behind the eyes. Any thoughts? Is time of year relevant to which it might be?
