Hi, this fly was cleaning itself in my garden yesterday, sat on a Hydrangea leaf. Nearest I have found is
Macronychia in the Family
Sarcophagidae. Of course I could be totally wrong!
It is a small fly, maybe the size of a house fly or less.
Location: Lincoln
Date: 26th September 2007.
Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks! :)

It can not be a Sarcophagid. I think this will be an Anthomyiid, and that is where the ID will end.

Not Sarcophagidae (M vein is straight). I would say Anthomyiidae.

Thank you Xespok and Stephane, it looks like you are unanimous! I looked in the Gallery and found one which resembles it very closely,
Hydrophoria lancifer . Could there be another as close?
