This keys to male Bibio johannis using the Freeman & Lane RES Handbook. But the Handbook has an illustration of a male B. johannis and the terminalia don't look like the ones in my photo. But if my specimen is female, the hairs are the wrong colour. So, is this a male, please?

Clearly a male ( females have very small eyes) and it looks ok for johannis.
The genitalia look wierd, did you distort them while retracting ?

Thanks for the confirmation. The fly was collected into 70% alcohol and this is how it was when it dried out. I didn't do any manipulation.
