Hi,

Center of France (Loiret). 15.05.2016. That female has neck, first sternite and rear femora green colored. First tarsomere longer than femora (like this one) :

Chironomini, possibly Chironomus.

Keys use leg ratio because that can be measured on a preserved specimen. You can recognize most live Chironominae by the way they hold their front legs, with femora vertical and rest of legs horizontal, normally pointed forwards but sometimes to the side.
