Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Tachinid from Dutch dunes

I saw this Tachinid last sunday in the Dutch dunes close to Zandvoort. I think you can see the subscutellum between the scutellum and the black spot (which is not some weird shadow!).

Can it be IDed?

Yes, indeed you can see the subscutellum !
The species is Prosena siberita, very typical by it's very long proboscis ('snout'), as a Bombylius. Unfortunately, invisible with this angle !
Prosena is in the Netherlands restricted to the dune area.

Well, I know this guy (Prosena) by the 1000 from the same area, which makes things easier.

THeo
