Hello! This one is known as 
Tephritis simplex (Loew, 1844). Very peculiar 
Mediterranean species.

Today I collected the female.
Both were on 
Silybum marianum.

Interesting, according to Merz, 1994 the host plant is 
Crepis albida. Probably specimens just fed on flowers of 
Silybum plant.

Hah) I am wrong, of course it is too early. On the other hand all 
Tephritis species are overwintering as imago, so they can just seeking for the proper host plant.

This group of species is associated with 
Tragopogon. Flies often overwintering inside shrubs and grasses, and certainly have nothing to do with 
Sylibum.

Camargue winters are mild and 
Silybum quickly becomes exuberant. Indeed, it is a refuge plant for many insects and amphibians as 
Hyla meridionalis.
