First Brachycera of the year, near urban wetlands in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. People scared it away before I could get closer.
(Edit: Actually my second Brachycera sighting. I forgot the seaweed flies on the beach last month, because they are active all year.)

On my planet this would be Calliphora vicina.
No idea if there are similar species around in the Nearctic.

I don't see a better alternative than
Calliphora vicina. They are very common at elevations over 500 meters, less common at sea level.
