I photographed a number of flies which were attreackted to my light installation with HPL bulbs.
Suriname, Brokopondo, Brownsberg plateau (about 500m asl). Night of 23-XI-2015.
Is this really a Tabanidae? Could someone give a more precise ID?
Thanks!

Definitely Pantophthalmidae - nice find :D Does it have hairy eyes? Did you take a specimen?

No hairy eyes as far as I can see. I'll include the best head shot I got in uncompressed form.
No specimen taken as I have no permit for collecting flies. See also
this topic.
