Hi !

Center of FRance, inside the house, < 2 mm.
Do these red halteres belong to a particular tribe ?

Do you have a picture showing wing veins? If it is Cecidomyiidae it should be subfamily Porricondylinae or supertribe Lasiopteridi.

It looks like Lestremiinae ?

Lestremiinae have five tarsomeres, the first similar to or longer than the second, and usually have ocelli. Porricondylinae and Cecidomyiidae appear to have four tarsomeres, usually because the first is very short and nearly fused to the second, and never have ocelli.

Thanks John, I am not sure to be able to count tarsomeres number on that picture.

I suggested Lestremiinae because of the fork M1-M2 (http://www.drawwi...nerea-wing)

That midges are quite too small to get details from pictures in natura !
I'll try to collect one.
Best regards.

The apparent fork is the edge of the wing underneath.
