I found this diptera, identified as a Cricotopus, in July, in the East of France, with a light trap designed for moth capture. Is it possible to identify it at the species level ?

Cricotopus (Cricotopus) cf.
pulchripes. This is a female and species are defined by male characters. I suggest
pulchripes because the pale second tarsomere of the fore leg, contrasting with dark first and third, is unusual.
The last revision, which I have not seen, is
Hirvenoja, M. 1973. Revision der Gattung Cricotopus van der Wulp und ihrer Verwandten (Diptera, Chironomidae). Ann. Zool. Fennici 10: 1-363
