Found near Szeged, S. Hungary, on 09. 04. 2011. It is a fairly large fly for an Empididae, 10-11 mm (including wing). Can someone identify it?
Thanks in advance!
Henrik

Perhaps, but my books are still in store...

I find it very difficult to identify Empididae from Central Europe. I have the key of the Fauna Hungariae, yet still I have a lot of specimens in my collection with very uncertain names.

Thanks for your answers, to both of you! I still have a bit of hope...
Is the genus at least Empis?

I think I can see the famous fork, so, if it is really there, yes Empis

Today I captured the male of this Empis (I think). I hope it helps ID the sp.:)
Of course, I can take pictures of any other part of it if necessary.
Thanks for any help in advance!

And the genitalia:

If I am not mistaken this is Empis albicans. Typcial is that the eyes of the male do not touch. The 3rd femur is twice as thick as the tibia. Also the genitalia are quite typical.

Maybe not a bad idea to take at least some of these photos up in the gallery. You have to ask Paul if he agrees!

How am I supposed to do it? Within this thread? Or somewhere else?
