Ah, sorry. I think I'll stick to Nematocera.... How does one tell a Rhinophorid from a Tachinid?

Rhinophorids & tachinids are very closely related so it is difficult to come up with some easy rules for distinguishing them. In general appearance they often have a long petiole on the median vein / r4+5 and the calyptrae diverge away from the scutellum. But there is no substitute for just knowing what the different rhinophorids and tachinids look like - they are fairly distinctive if you know what combination of features to look for ;)
