Hi all,

I was sorting through some Qatar material today, and came across these two fellas... My immediate guess is Milichiidae although I am not at all sure. Can anyone help?

Cheers!

Daniel

I'd suggest Ephydridae

Also the second one? Ephydrid would have been one of my guesses for the first, but not for the second.

The darker one with the expanded hind tibia is surely Leptometopa (Milichiidae)

Why not Leptometopa?

The smaller one with no arista might be an ephydrid - but it's not a genus I recognise.

Leptometopa is a confirmation of an id. I received from someone else... Great!
The small one does have an arista, but it's very difficult to discern on the specimen. I will have a closer look, but I was under the impression that it had ephydrid-like rays on the dorsal surface... and the mouthparts are well reminiscent of some ephydrids!
:) Cheers guys!

Got confirmation from Tadeusz Zatwarnicki that the smaller one is an ephydrid: Asmeringa sp. :)
