I collected these two flies from Tottenham cemetery this morning. I have to assume they're signatus as they're on Ivy in late september. Are they both males, and how does one tell?

This should be a female with the pronounced zigzag marking on the abdomen which is also proportionally longer than in the male. Several Conopidae in the Gallery are misidentified re male/female.

hi Steve, these are two separate flies. I take it you mean the first one? More pics of both flies here http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/297002

Hi Jeremy,
Sorry, I missed your comment that there were two. My comments still apply though. Its safer to have dorsal, lateral and ventral photos of the same individual:)
