Photograph taken on August 09, 2012, in the wetlands of the Suárez Pond, Motril, Granada, Spain.
Immediate area of the Mediterranean coast.
Apparent size with wings, about 18 mm

Pattern seems to match Tabanus bromius in the Gallery..but just a guess..we don't have any Tabanidae up here luckily.

Thank you both for your help.

For the next time you see a horsefly, I hope to know what it is, and the importance of the front jacks ..

On this occasion, not knowing what it was, I tried two laterals. But in both shots, the gadfly was faster than my flash shot, and only photographed the plant that had settled. :|
