2. Why Anthomyiidae? Recently I send a thread about my fly from Egypt and your fly from Japan (http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=5&thread_id=3682&pid=22070#post_22070).
And this fly belongs to Muscidae, large (more that 200 species) genus Atherigona (tropical region of Old World).

You are right, I meant this thread, the flies are really similar. Initially when making these photos I did not even realize that this tiny species would be a calyptrate fly, rather the jizz suggested something around Dolichopodidae.

You are of course right, I somehow remembered that this genus would be one within Anthomyiidae.

If you need advice to travel to Ethiopia, I am more than happy to give you some. December is nice for traveling, but there are not too many dipterans around, generally very few insects can be seen in most parts of Ethiopia, it is just too dry there (except the mountains). Also it is very cheap to be there, I spent 900$ in three weeks! My flight was a free flight on my bonus miles, so this was my cheapest ever oversees trip ever, the total budget was less than $1500. Of course do not expect a lot of luxury for this price!
