Two keys suggest that this would be Winthemia but it has orange tibiae and no sign of orange bar on tergite 5; also the wing seems slightly more yellow tinged than pictures suggest. Other characters seem OK. Any thoughts? 1/6/11 in woodland, Lincoln UK.

Yes, looks like a
Carcelia to me - look how deep the eyes are in relation to the gena :)

Let us know which
Carcelia you think it is - is it a male? Male genitalia are very good features - as is the frons/eye width ratio :)

Just quickly for the moment.. the basicosta is the same colour as the scutellum (interpretation doubtful- yellow or dark brown?) and there is a ventral bristle on mid-tibia (apical third) which means it isn't either of the commoner species, yes? I'll try to get some pictures on later. Bit busy at the moment...

If you'd like to send it here Phil I will have a look, if you like? When it says dark-brown really it means that it should be more like the tegula ... a pale basicosta is quite orange/yellow.
PS: I have emailed you the latest
Carcelia key :)
