Hello,

this fly from wich I can't remember the size, is from July 2011 from near Neuss (germany) - probably from a border of a road. What is it?

Thanks,
Michael

Looks like Pachygaster - Stratiomyidae

Thank you for yor answer Chris. Then it should be Pachygaster ater, because the other species - leachii - has yellow thighs.

Pachygaster is Greek for "thick abdomen."
